What would be a typical day in AIFF Masters for a student?

The wonderful thing about working for something as passionate as Football Management is that you never have a typical day! Each day is different and brings new opportunities of learning and interacting with so many different industry practitioners.

July and August are called the ‘On-boarding months’. Here the students are immersed in the eco-system of football management through concepts, models, practicals and familiarity with the jargon.

September is the ‘Governance Immersion’ month where the students spend time under each Department Head at the AIFF headquarters and understand what it takes to run a National Sports Federation. Moreover, with the COVID-19 pandemic, it is now crucial to train our Managers to plan for and mitigate future potential virus outbreaks through comprehensive learning of systems and processes.

October and November are the ‘FIFA Match Operations’ months where the managers learn how the process of postponing a mega event such as FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup 2020 takes place and how does it impact the various stakeholders - players, sponsors, venues, etc.

December and January are the ‘bridging months’ where they learn Spanish and understand the prevalent global aspects of the game and how they sit in the Indian context.

The entire month of February is spent in Cadiz, Spain, learning under the wings of each Department Head of the 110 year old Club.

March 2021 is a possible month for the implementation of the FIFA U17 Women's World Cup and our Managers will be well-placed to take up this responsibility.

Finally, upon completion of their project in March, the students are placed in internships based on their arena of interest.

Why has such a program been introduced? Why does Indian football need such a program?

Over the past decade the penetration of Football has become ubiquitous at every level of educational, social and economic strata of Indian Society. An offshoot of this feverish adoption of love for Football has been the proliferation of teams, clubs, coaches, academies and leagues.

It has thus become imperative for the Governing body of Football in India to train and skill high-functioning football managers to facilitate this growth optimally and to scale the value proposition of the sport at all levels.

Hence, this Program aims to propagate, through its students, the contemporary and cutting-edge strategies and techniques in use around the world in planning, research, marketing and assessment of Football and above all those key aspects which are paramount for the growth of the game in the right spirit and towards the right direction – governance of football, structure of standing and judicial committees, terms of reference, player status regulations, competition regulations, integrity and ethics, anti-doping regulations and anti-racism regulations.

This 52-week hands-on, practical program takes the Vocational Education route to ensure that knowledge is not only learned but also applied by the practitioners throughout their learning period of one year.
